Learning Outcomes
  • At the end of the course the student will have achieved the following:
    An opportunity for the interaction and integration of previous diverse business and management knowledge;
  • A knowledge of, and experience with, decision making techniques appropriate to the international business environment;
  • A knowledge of case analysis techniques leading to decisions and actions;
  • A knowledge of appropriate techniques to assist in case analyses;
  • Exposure to actual business situations through case study analyses of real-life global business situations;
  • An opportunity to improve written skills through preparation of case study analyses;
  • An opportunity to improve oral participation and discussion skills through class activities.
PresentationPower Point presentations for each chapter of the main text will be posted on the college intranet under BACL T Drive. Students are recommended to download the presentation ahead of coverage in class if they want to have a copy on which to make notes. This syllabus is also posted on the same drive and is subject to change during the semester. Although the lecturer will alert students to changes, it is encumbent on each student to check the intranet for the latest version (as indicated by the date). As shown above, students are often required to study cases or prepare materials ahead of class. Failure to do so or to attend class will impact the student’s grade (see Assessment below). Cases will either be posted on the T Drive or handed out in class in advance. Some assignments are to be completed by teams, to be organised by the lecturer. The course will be supplemented by a business game. The game will give students a fun opportunity to implement business strategy in competitive environment. 15% of the overall grade will be based on the quality of the analysis, strategy and tactics brought by a team to the competition; it will not be based solely on who wins! The grade ultimately assigned to an individual will also reflect a confidential peer assessment which is built into the game.
