Learning Outcomes
  • To emphasize social and cultural explanations of gender as opposed to biological accounts of ‘sex’
  • To analyse a range of ways in which gender roles are acquired and how different forms of masculinity and femininity have developed and changed
  • To examine the link between gender inequality and ideology especially in terms of the organization of work
  • To understand historical and cross-cultural perspectives on gender and sex roles
PresentationA range of methods will be used to deliver this course. These will include visual materials and presentations, worksheets, Q and A sessions, student presentations and lecturing. Readings will be indicated for each class and it is essential that students complete these before class in order to be fully prepared.
Pre-Requisites12 credit hours of social science or permission of the instructor
